The tough part is getting "him" to believe that their wonky and a bunch of nuts. At 13 I didn't believe poop that my parents told me... I had to live it for myself. I'm certainly not saying let him be a JayHo, but I, myself, would be careful not to say "no" about it. He's got to see and more importantly feel the pain of the Dubs' Borg.
Oh, I have no idea how to do the above I just gave my 2, well in this case, 1 cent worth based on the way I felt at his age. Let us know what you do as I'll be doing it in a couple of years with my crack-pot family.
Keep Trucking and stay strong. Remember all the Dubs want to do is get him in then they'll drop him like a hot potato. You can win this fight! -

Make it a damn-nice one!
Writing rocks! Get after it. Letters to paper is all that matters. -

Happy Heretic, Freethinker, Apostate - How do you see yourself?
by Seeker4 inin the thread on agnostic or atheist, startingover posted an article by a woman who is referred to as the happy heretic.
i like that phrase.
how do you view yourself?

Daddy and Husband. Oh, yeah and an Atheist, Free-Thinker, Camus Lover, but I still enjoy going to Catholic Mass because I like the homilies. And I watch Squawk Box because I believe the US economy is rockin'! Don’t believe the main-stream media, which is all doom-and-gloom… kinda like the Dubs.
I just wanna live and let live, with a social responsibility, nothing special.

I absolutely love it for 2.75 days. In on Thurs aft, leave on Sun morn. At 2.76 days I can't get away from Bing-Bang-Bing-Bong-Bing-Bang-Bong-Bing fast enough. Even in the airport, I'm ready to jam a pencil in my ear to get it to stop.
We casino hop with a lot of booze and little sleep. No shows and no looking at the fountains. We get cool comps and then we're outta there as fast as possible. -

I have trust issues , but what do you think about this ....
by troubled mind inthe reverend down the street has made friends with my son ...... yesterday we came down hard on our 18 yr old son because he has not gotten a job since graduation , and can not pay for his share of the cell phone or car insurance .
so we took these privileges away until he can pay .
well he must of went over to the rev's last night and the guy offered to give him $100.

I did some head-hunting for a placement agency. They also had a temp agency there. They placed people for everything and anything you can think of.
Let him follow his dream as long as he can afford it. If he likes it like you say he does, he'll find a way, the preacher's offer notwithstanding. If he can't afford it then it's back to the salt mines he goes. He's 18, time to decide; especially when it comes to seemingly weird advances by so-called authority figures.
It sounds as though he still lives at home. No college in his future? He can be poor and in a band all at the same time he's gettin' edumacated. -

Cheer Me On Rah rah rah!
by AuntieJane inok, here is something you haven't read on this board.
i don't get on any other boards & not here very often but thought i'd get your reactions on this event in my life.
my 24 yoa married daughter (2 years married) decided to go back to school to finish her degree.
-
Sailor Ripley
Good for her! The degree will help her family in the long run. I had some buddies that were cheerleaders. They are an extremely tight-knit group with a lot of support and camaraderie. She'll have fun!
Chin up, Captain. Let the troops know that you have faith in them. They'll do it... or they won't. What you can do best is support them both with an extremely positive outlook for the future. A little out-of-the-ordinary. So what! Sounds like she's her own girl. Tell her to keep rockin' in the free world.
Keep us posted.

Our deepest condolences are with you and yours. My wife lost her dad 3 weeks before our wedding. We enjoyed seeing every family member and friend regardless of their religious affiliation.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope it works out well for you.
p.s. Your first sentence reminds me of the first sentence in "The Stranger" by Albert Camus. -

I wrote a week or so ago, what I truly believe. I hope that y'all have what we have, which is that our love is stronger today than it was yesterday but not as strong as it will be tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing your great pics. Have fun! -

144K. Were they just the really crazy ones?!? How did they get the call?
by Sailor Ripley ini remember this sister that used to come to the memorials, not sure where she was the rest of the time, that would partake of the offering.
i mean she would take a gulp of the vino and the bread and not one person said a thing.
how did they know they were a part of the super friends?

Jayhawk1,
Is 8,000 the approximate number of annointed now? That's a great deal shy of 144,000. What gives? Do they have to wait until they get closer to the quota before armageddy? Will there be a huge rush of partakers in the near future? What happened in '75? Did a bunch leave Jan 01, 1976?
